The sign says it all, they can't fix all of your problems, but it's highly unlikely I'm going to be leaving this place hungry. A roadside bar and grill along busy Highway 2, Bubba's has been "fixing skinny" since 2002. In full disclosure, I have visited this hamburger haven often over the last few years. It's time Bubba's gets its due!
There were many items to choose from. Including the usual suspects of a teriyaki or shroom burger. But several items jump off the menu. The WTF burger comes loaded with a monster size patty, 2 types of cheese (American and Swiss), bacon, ham, pastrami and a split bratwurst. The Roadhouse is similar, with a fried egg, bacon, ham and a split bratwurst. Then there's the Larsen with a split bratwurst, grilled peppers and an Ancho Chile "slammer" sauce. I chose the establishment's namesake, the Bubba Burger.
Behold the Bubba in all of it's glory! This monster burger is listed as having "a huge" patty. And that's no lie, the patty was well over 1/2 a lb. and was hand formed. The buns are a standard sesame seed variety but are equally as large. The burger is topped with the usual lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles Swiss and American cheese as well as Bubba's "secret sauce". The knife is essential, because this beast will try to kill you. If you have a big mouth, like I do, you might be able to take a bite of the Bubba with a little effort and determination.
The bacon on the Bubba is top notch, as is the massive beef patty. The produce, bun and sauce were all fairly average. The novelty of this burger alone makes it worth the investment of gastro fortitude. Make sure you stretch your jaw before you dig in so you don't cramp up, and be advised this could easily be a meal for two.
The ride across Highway 2 is beautiful this time of year. The leaves are changing, the snow is falling, what better backdrop do you need? Mastication of beef sandwich in full effect!
Bubba's has a walk up window on the left side of the building if you are in a hurry and don't want to go inside. This makes for an ideal grab and go before you jump over the mountains. But I wouldn't suggest eating one of their burgers and driving, it's a two handed game!
At a total of 12 points the Bubba Burger brings in a solid silver. One more point and I would have rated them a gold. I can't wait to come back and try some of the more exotic menu items.
