Since 1966 the folks at Mikie's have been slinging burgers to local masticators, 7 days a week. It's not hard to find, located directly off of Evergreen Way in Everett. Prior to 1998 Mikie's was an A&W franchise, since 2002 they have been operating under the name Mikie's.
Since they switched over to their own brand, Mikie's has fully embraced the classic 50s diner look. But if you look close enough you can see the A&W influence still lingers. This burger hunter fully supports the look and feel of this place, it's totally worth going inside. But if you are in a rush they do have a drive through.
Classic fare includes; burgers, hot dogs, shakes, fish and chips, chicken strips and a wide range of sides. They have a kids menu and this place is definitely kid friendly. They often rotate seasonal shakes and have a big list of standard flavors. I asked the nice young lady what the most popular burger was and she said the "DBL Bacon Cheese". What's not to love about that?
The DBL Bacon Cheese Burger is a pretty straight forward burger. I'm glad I went with the double because the meat is pretty thin. Adorned with bacon, lettuce, American cheese, slivered onions, meaty pickles, tomatoes and a burger sauce, all housed between a toasted sesame seed bun.
The burger held together well. The patties appear to be frozen flat top fried. The buns are fairly standard, the type you'd get from Franz at a grocery store. All the produce was good and there was a lot of it. The bacon was the best part of this burger, not too stringy, not to crunchy. If you like the processed cheese flavor of most fast food burgers you really can't go wrong with these guys. It's always a plus when your burger drips all over your tray, so use napkins.
A little above average in all four categories earns Mikie's a bronze trophy. The burgers here are a step above fast food, but only a step above fast food. If you like Whoppers and such, this burger will hit the spot for you. What really makes Mikie's a place to eat is the atmosphere and employees. The Americana interior, and the classic music they play, will take you back in time. And their milkshakes really are top notch. They seem to have a huge following for fish and chips, but this isn't a fish stick blog, so I had to stay in my lane.
