1401 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201
Ray's is a local burger joint off Broadway in North Everett. Since 1962 they have been slinging grub to the hungry zombies that shamble along the sidewalks of this busy street. Parking up front is limited, however they do have a drive thru and additional parking in the back. I arrived around 2:30PM on a Tuesday and the place was pretty poppin' with customers.
The menu is everything you would expect and love from a greasy roadside burger stand. Burgers, fries, shakes, chicken etc. They do claim to have the best fish and chips around, and have a pretty decent selection of shake flavors (12+Malt), including one of my favorites, Green River! Mushroom burgers are on the menu for you shroom heads, however this time I selected what I anticipate is their flagship burger, the Ray. Let's make that a double with cheese and bacon please. One item of note, which has nothing to do with my rating, is that the menu is well priced. You won't need to spend a fortune to fill up at Ray's.
Drum roll please... The Double Ray is Ray's deluxe burger. Cheese and bacon are additional items, which is odd when it carries your namesake. Nestled between a toasted sesame seed bun you will find two 1/5 patties. Dressed With Mayo, Red Relish, Dill Pickles, Tomato, Lettuce & Onions. When I ordered, I had them add bacon and cheese for the full experience, I always pay for the happy ending. Since I couldn't eat it on site I drove to my office, which is only a couple turns down the road. The bun did not hold up well in the packaging and was soggy by the time I got to it. The produce was average and minimal, similar to what you would find on a fast food burger. The frozen 1/5 beef patties were cooked on a flat top and were juicy, cooked all the way through.
The Double Ray opened up. This sucker was dripping when I dug into it. Make sure you have a lot of napkins when you masticate with Ray.
You might want to go get a drink or something while I take a moment to smash this burger.
The fries at this place were pretty bangin'. You only need a small fry for about 2 people, I couldn't even imagine taking down a large fry or the mysterious fry box on the menu.
In the world of burgers, there are wolves and sheep. With a total of 9 points The Double Ray is neither of these, it's more like a part time shepherd that separates the two. A solid, affordable, juicy option, it won't leave you saying wow. But it will leave you full. The Double Ray takes home a silver, at least from this big hairy american burger eating reviewer.
