I went to the Lake Stevens location, but it's worth noting that they have locations in Lynnwood, and per their website, Kent. I've been to the Lynnwood location several times, and it has a bit more room if you're thinking about dining in. The Lake Stevens location has an outdoor eating area though, if you're all about masticating in public on those sunny days.
Katsu Burger is not your grandpa's BBQ. They have an impressive array of unique burgers which are all served "Katsu" style. Basically this means covered in panko style breading and deep fried. If you are not into beef, they have pork and chicken options available. On a "side" note, they also have seasalt, nori (seaweed), curry and 12 spice fries which come with your choice of several house made dipping sauces. Their website states that these are "Seattle's Best French Fries". A bold statement!
When I asked what the most popular burger was, the cashier said the Ohayou. I had to look up what that means, and Google in its infinite wisdom told me it stands for "Good Morning". This makes sense since the burger comes with a fried egg, bacon, shredded cabbage, cheddar cheese, Japanese mayo and tonkatsu sauce. It's a great combination if you can't make up your mind between breakfast or lunch. But trust me it's lunch!
The Ohayou is impressive, it's quite massive. Most of its bulk is made up of the chopped cabbage though, I usually take a little off when I eat them so that I can fit my mouth around the burger. In addition, this burger came with tomatoes, pickles and red onions. You can order a vegetarian option if you wish, but that's covered on someone else's blog. The bun was lightly toasted and I was shocked that it held together so well with all the sauce that comes on this guy.
They probably should have named this burger the "Goodnight". If you can put it all away you will be taking a nap shortly after. But don't worry, you will fall asleep with a smile on your greasy burger eating face. One last photo of the Ohayou's guts before I rank it.
Sneaking in at 17 points, Katsu Burger is awarded our Platinum Trophy. The meat and sauce combination were given our highest point total possible, which put this burger over the edge. If you're looking to try something truly unique in the burger kingdom, I cannot stress this place enough. And with three locations it's pretty obvious that others have caught on to the magic of Japanese fusion burgers. Well done Katsu, well done.
On a side note, these burgers are not actually made with any real cat.
