Just off a semi-busy rural road, west of Interstate 5, is a hidden burger joint. Country Burger has been in business since the 40s, and is a staple in the local 7 Lakes community. Due to Covid, the indoor seating was not available. But they are dog friendly and have a large outdoor seating area that feels like you are eating in a park. They also have a walk up-drive thru and plenty of parking is available in the parking lot. If your itching for some coffee, an espresso stand is located in the same parking lot.
The menu posted by the drive thru doesn't list everything this place has to offer. It's rare that I don't want a burger, and those steak sandwiches really popped off the menu at me. But, alas, this is a burger review! So I asked what the most popular burger was and was directed to the classic bacon cheeseburger. It's worth noting they have many specialty burgers, like the Bacon-n-Blue, the BBQ Ham and the Country Western. Next time I swing by I will make sure to venture off the beaten path to try that steak sandwich!
Country Burger's classic Bacon Cheeseburger comes on a lightly toasted bakery bun. The beef was a frozen patty that appears to have been cooked on a flat top. The meat was well cooked, no pink, but still greasy and juicy, just the way we like it. The burger was topped with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and secret sauce. The sauce is your standard Thousand Island style burger goo. The bacon was excellent, crisp, but not overly cooked, and higher quality. Let's get into this bad boy.
Look familiar? That's how a classic roadside burger should look. Everything blended well together and gave off that nostalgic burger vibe. Nothing about this burger will blow your socks off, but the composite scratches that burger itch.
Country Burger is set in the middle of the.. well... country. Make sure when you are heading out this way you look for the sign, or you might just miss out. You wont find a better burger for miles. It's worth making a U-Turn for if you are heading out to your camping spot on the lake.
Country Burger is a solid greasy burger joint, but nothing really wows you with their simple (but delicious) ingredients. Don't head into town and get McDonalds, take a drive and enjoy the fresh air. In this review, County Burger gets a silver trophy. With a quality product, I wont be surprised if they stick around for another 80 years!
